Selfie Project Online Photo Project for Women
Status: ACTIVE, OPEN CALL
Started: April 2016
“Selfie Project” is about exploring the way we perceive and present ourselves in digital world.
Are we okay with our appearance or hide behind filters?
Do we act the same or bolder in digital media as in real life?
The participation is free, online as open call.
No modelling experience is necessary.
All bodies welcomed.
It’s just about how you are.
It’s almost half way. Thank you!
Got 42 regular + 30 ‘sexy’ selfies, so far. (Need 72 shots to complete each section)
Idea and planned results
I came to think that it would be interesting to see how people approach their own appearance and try to capture the ongoing shift in both the idea and the aesthetics of a self-portrait influenced largely by modern technology.
As usual in my work – the project is aimed at women. Your self-esteem, confidence and self-perception are the very core of not only this, but many of my previous projects.
A set of three composite pieces (parts) shall be made, each containing 72 photographs.
Project parts
Part 1: “My part”. I started with a series of self-portraits using mobile phone camera and communication apps with their filters – to explore the subject.
Part 2: Selfie or self-portrait. It’s your part. Volunteer and submit your shot.
Part 3: Sexy-selfies. If you dare. Submit whatever you imagine being a ‘sexy-selfie’. It’s okay any way you want, just no sexual activities, please (won’t use such). Shots can be anonymous.
Project images
Submitted photos will never be used as standalone images but always and only as part of a collage, matrix forming one of the project parts.
